Månadane gjekk, og i november kom frostmånen – vinterens fyrste fullmåne. Han lyste grimt opp under den norrøne himmelen. Mannedaud kjente hatet vekse i den frosne sjela si, og han kvad ei grufull vise:

Svake kristne skal døy i natt,
offer for sverd i den evige eld;
no skal dei kjenne mi forakt,
kristent blod skal spillast i kveld.

Rallaskrømten sa til han «I kveld skal du få blodhemnen din.» Mannedaud lo ondskapsfullt for seg sjølv. Han hadde sett fram til denne dagen i mange år no. Endeleg skulle sverdet hans få smaka kristent blod igjen.
